Council cutbacks?

At this time of year overhanging hedges or trees can be a nuisance, particularly if they encroach onto pavements and pathways. They are the responsibility of the owner of the land they are situated on and the owner has a legal obligation to keep them from encroaching onto a pavement or road.

Where a tree or bush on private property has overgrown and is blocking the pavement, the council’s street scene enforcement can ask the resident to cut the tree or bush back. If after 14 days of this request being made the tree is still causing an obstruction the council will cut back the tree or hedge and bill the resident.

Please report overhanging trees or bushes by phone on the Cleaner Greener 020 8753 1100 or email on cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk
