This year, Brackenbury Residents Association joined forces with local businesses led by Tom Gavaghan of the Andover Arms for a Christmas Street Party. We’d like to thank you, the residents and BRA members for making it a resounding success and an event enjoyed by both children and adults! I’ve included a few photos from the day.
It really did feel that the Christmas season had started in the heart of the village last Saturday. The scene was set as the afternoon dusk, created by a clear sky and frosty air. Residents listened to the choirs singing carols in Aldensley Road, and could see the twinkling lights of a majestic tree in nearby Brackenbury Road.
Brackenbury Primary School choir opened the Brackenbury Village Christmas Street Party in front of the Andover Arms with half an hour of delightful Christmas carols and songs, ably conducted by Jacqueline Roberts, Deputy Headteacher, with Laura Lund, the Headteacher, providing support. As the choir were singing “We wish you a merry Christmas”, Father Christmas appeared around the corner of Cardross Street, making for his grotto in Aldensley Road with his sack of toys. The children’s choir moved on to the grotto, still wearing their flashing Father Christmas hats, to collect a small gift. The Christmas hats and gifts both being small tokens of appreciation provided by BRA.
Next, a choir of adults from the Addison Singers then performed a further half hour of carols with audience participation, helped by carol sheets provided by BRA. After the carols, the residents admired the Christmas tree and partake in the other delights and activities in the Street Party.
BRA would like to thank the choirs and the following businesses and people for their kind donations and help to make this a fantastic event. Christmas tree donated by Shoots & Leaves, Christmas tree lights donated by W6 Garden Centre, Brackenbury Tailors who stored the hats for the children and Jared Furbank. Toni would personally like to thank Gavin from Tabor Road who kindly offered to install the lights and brought his 2 children who brought his 2 children Freya and Milly to help out with the decorations on the Saturday morning. We would also like to thank the BRA Christmas Event Committee members Christina Smyth; Joanna Thomas, Julia Davidson, Nicolette Scapens, Toni Raybould and Caroline Trier.
